ANOTHER “IF I DON’T GET MY WAY, I’M GONNA PUT YOU OUT OF BUSiNESS”

(and lose my job because I’m stupid)

Representatives from the International Longshoreman Association are hashing things out with the United State Maritime Association, using a Federal Mediator, to try and come to a rapid resolution.
The main issue being discussed is a two dollar per ton fee that the USMX wants to eliminate.

The fee has been in place for more than four decades and Longshoreman say there is no reason to do away with it now. The fee was a way to compensate for lost jobs and automation and it now provides a year-end bonus, for the Longshoreman.

The deadline for both sides to reach an agreement is Saturday, December 29th at midnight.
Workers will make their way to designated locations to begin picketing.  Mayor Edna Jackson says the port is a part of Savannah's economy that we can't afford to have shut down.
